Producing Excellence in Retail!

Previously we have commented about POP UP Stores and how they are a temporary solution and a smart way of using existing space, with this in mind it made me think what other intelligent commodities have popped up temporarily to bolt on to existing business practises. Unquestionably during 2019 I have become more aware of how many clever APPS are available to download temporarily for sporting events, television shows or festivals, which identifies slightly in the same way with the POP UP stores as they bolt on like an extra tool to an existing solution and POP UP ready for the event.

Sporting Events It used to be when if you wanted to watch a local sporting event you either had to go along and cheer at the location or wait until you heard from the participant after the race or event to see how they had got on.

Now you can download the live APP, type in the name or BIB number which enables anyone to track the individual throughout the event. As long as the participant has a racing chip corresponding with the BIB number and name then away you go. Other than the slightly stalking awareness it does have a safety aspect to it, family and friends can follow live where the person is from mile to mile, watch the movement on the map, see the splits and have the knowledge they have finished.

Similarly Festival Event apps can tell you who is playing at what stage and you can create an itinerary, so you don’t miss your favourite bands with live map updates and alerts to tell you where to be and when. On the occasion where you may lose your friends in the crowds (and assuming the noise of a ringing phone may not be heard) you can track their location to meet up again.

The TV shows such as Britain’s Got Talent, Love Island and The Voice have likewise Apps which can be downloaded for the duration of the show so you don’t miss any news, exclusive videos or the ability to compare the candidate’s profiles to one another. You are able to choose your favourites etc. which personalises the watching experience allowing the ability to be fully engrossed within the show – a considerable marketing tool.

Once the event, festival or show has finished then the APP is no longer needed and the next relevant App becomes available and POPS UP. I can only see these APPS as a positive tool and the way forward, it may be that POS for the future will become the standard to include the APP link as well as the website link…
